Adolescent Wellness Exam
As your child enters their teenage years and becomes an adult, their body develops and many new lifestyle changes and habits start to arise. Our providers work to evaluate the health of your whole family and address any problems, issues, or concerns that could negatively impact your child.
By being proactive in care and treatment, you can stay ahead of any problems and help your child continue down a path of personal wellness and growth.
Horizon Health Care’s Wellness Exams
Horizon Health Care providers adapt to the needs of everyone, and will work with you to evaluate your child’s health and wellness based on their age, societal background, and family medical history. For adolescent exams, we work with anyone 11 years old all the way to adulthood, and we encourage everyone to stick to annual checkups in order to track progress effectively.
These wellness visits are typically covered by insurance companies, and if you do not have insurance, we will work with you through avenues like our Sliding Fee Program.
What We Evaluate during Adolescent Wellness Visits
From 11 years old to 18 years old, your child will experience a lot of life changes, and likewise, wellness changes. It is important to establish healthy habits and proper care during these years to help your family thrive.
Perhaps the most notable change within this age range would be puberty. Hormone levels initiate bodily and sexual development in girls around age 11, and boys around age 12, allowing them to grow into adults by the time they turn 18 years old.
During your child’s wellness exam, providers build confidence in you and your child and help your family understand topics such as safe sex, healthy relationship building, and proper hygiene.
This period of time can also be difficult emotionally. Managing conflict, dealing with life changes, and identifying depression symptoms are all important skills your teen should have. We screen for mental health issues during wellness exams, and recommend lifestyle changes and treatment options if necessary.
Other areas we evaluate during wellness exams for your adolescent child include safe driving screenings, drug and alcohol abuse screenings, and routine vaccinations. If you want to discuss or check for any other health issue, contact your primary care provider for more details.
Additionally, it is important to note that adolescence is not the only time when wellness exams are beneficial–pediatric children and adults can also benefit from periodic wellness checks.
