Growing up in a small town, Todd Jordre learned the values of working toward a goal and giving back to your community. He’s putting those lessons to work as a member of the Horizon Health Foundation Board of Directors – helping to provide resources for patients without financial means to pay for their healthcare.

are and school system, it’s the home of Northern State University, as well as a progressive downtown and a variety of restaurants and hospitality venues. Making sure Horizon continues to be successful in this enterprising community means making sure community members know what the clinic has to offer.
“Here in Aberdeen, for most people, we have a very good lifestyle and if this is one segment that we can get involved in to help our community continue to move forward I’m all for it,” Todd said.
Todd and his wife Julie have been married for over 39 years. They were able to raise their two children without worrying about how to pay to treat their childhood illnesses and injuries. The birth of their two-year-old grandson makes it even more important, and spurred Todd’s commitment to helping other people’s families.
“Growing up and not having that issue in our family, we’re very thankful that Horizon is successful and doing well in Aberdeen,” he said.
He was inspired to give to the Horizon Health Foundation and become more involved as a board member because he wants everyone’s children to receive care.
“I felt like if there was something I could do for those that were in need I’d love to do it,” Todd said. “Because my wife Julie and I were blessed with healthcare our whole lives we felt that is something we’d love to be involved in.”
In Aberdeen, like most small cities, Todd said there are a group of people with insufficient insurance coverage. Healthcare was available to him growing up, so he’s thankful that Horizon Health is in Aberdeen to help those who can’t afford care. Horizon’s mission is to serve everyone’s healthcare needs, regardless of their ability to pay. Its focus is on supporting rural areas and building community for those who may have gone years without serious health and dental issues being addressed.
Todd is currently the vice president for Plains Commerce Bank in Aberdeen and has a long history of raising money for various organizations including Northern State University and Avera. He said not many people wake up in the morning excited to fundraise, but once the anxiety in asking someone for money abates, it’s just a matter of matching a potential donor’s interests with those of the organization in need.
“Aberdeen is a very giving town, a very giving city,” Todd said. “This is a unique challenge as we really believe in Horizon Health and the Foundation. We’re going to do everything we can here in this region and statewide to continue to progress fundraising, hopefully endow some funds and hopefully get in the campaign mode at some time and keep the ball rolling.”
