With School Started, It’s Time to Schedule Your Primary Care Visit

Sep 24, 2022 | Blog

The school year is in full swing. And with that milestone as a reminder, it’s a great time to schedule an annual primary care wellness visit for both you and your adolescent.

“For families, September marks one of the busiest times of the year with school, activities and sports practices and games all in full swing,” says Misty Rudebusch, Horizon Health Care’s Medical Director. “But your family’s health shouldn’t take a backseat to the busyness. Make an appointment for your child, and—while you’re at it—schedule yourself, too.”

Every season in South Dakota brings about changes and challenges. And the same is true of life. That’s why Horizon Health Care emphasizes the important role of your primary care provider for all ages and stages of growth.

“The needs of a child or teenager during their development are very different from an adult or senior,” says Lance S. Lim, M.D., Chief Medical Officer. “When you keep your relationship and appointments with the primary care provider who knows you, you have the best chance of maintaining good health throughout life.”

For children, regular checkups, immunizations and adolescent wellness exams are especially important. This includes dental appointments and behavioral health check-ins. As adults, we’re still developing well into our 20s and face different challenges and conditions in our 40s, 50s and senior years.

Horizon encourages you to check in with your Horizon primary care provider and make sure your appointments are up to date.
