John Mengenhausen Named Recipient of 2016 CHAMPS Presidential Award

(HOWARD, SD) – John Mengenhausen was recently named the recipient of the Community Health Association of the Mountains/Plains States’ (CHAMPS) 2016 Presidential Award. The award was presented by CHAMPS with sincere appreciation for his commitment, vision, and steadfast leadership.

“John is an exceptional leader for this organization and is quite deserving of this award,” said Sally Rosin, Horizon Board Chair. “Our entire board is grateful for his expertise and leadership over the years, as well as his commitment to our mission and values, ensuring health care access for many rural communities across the state.”

Mengenhausen has led Horizon Health Care, Inc. as Chief Executive Officer for over thirty years. Through a number of mergers and expansions over the past three decades, Mengenhausen has led the organization to grow into 26 medical and dental clinics across the state of South Dakota. Horizon has also become the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in South Dakota. Mengenhausen serves on numerous state, regional, and national boards and organizations and is respected for his expertise in the field of community health center leadership.
