Horizon Health Care is pleased to welcome back Jean Thompson, CNP, PA-C, as a medical provider at Howard Community Health Center. As the original provider at Howard CHC, Thompson spent 17 years serving the Howard community until 1994. She returned to Horizon as a PRN provider in 2018 and has provided coverage in Howard, Bryant, De Smet, Lake Preston and Woonsocket as needed. Now, she’s looking forward to providing regularly scheduled primary care medical services to the Howard area.
Originally from Howard, South Dakota, Thompson received her certification as a nurse practitioner and as a physician’s assistant from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In 2003, she graduated with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Thompson has received many awards for her service in the medical field, including Miner County Person of the Year in 1993 and Civilian PA of the Year in 1996 from the Veterans Caucus of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. In her career, she’s gained 43 years of experience in family and emergency medicine in the Howard, Huron, and Madison communities, as well as filling in as needed at Horizon’s eastern clinics.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to Horizon Health Care and bring primary care to our rural citizens in South Dakota,” said Jean Thompson, CNP, PA-C. “Our message has been to provide access to affordable health care from the very beginning. We are committed to excellence and dedicated to the people we serve. It’s a privilege to be a part of this health care team.”
