Michelle Eick is living a healthier life thanks to care he received from Horizon Health Yankton.
Michelle Eick leads a creative life.
He moved to Yankton in his senior year of high school after being born in Rosebud and raised in Nebraska. He paints, draws, dabbled in sculpting and is just “really into the arts.” Eick chose a career following his artistic passion by working at Dakota Theatre in Yankton, a performing arts center providing entertainment and cultural opportunities to the area.
He enjoys living in a community like Yankton. It’s different than the little town in Nebraska where he grew up but retains small-town benefits like closeness to nature.
The staff at Horizon Health Yankton was creative in helping Michelle navigate long-term health conditions that were affecting his ability to enjoy his surroundings and creative pursuits. He had suffered for years with seasonal allergies, anxiety and untreated dental issues.
Horizon Health providers listened and prescribed medication, including an inhaler, that helped with his asthma. He is seeing a behavioral health provider for help with his anxiety and is making progress on his dental concerns.
“Talking with the therapist I’ve been seeing has really helped,” Eick said. “They listen and they suggest solutions to a problem that I greatly appreciate.”
Horizon referred Eick to an oral surgeon and helped remove some bad teeth.
“My dental health was very poor,” Eick said. “Like teeth were literally falling out of my head,” he said.
Treatment has progressed to just taking care of cavities. Overall, his health is in a much better place thanks to Horizon Health.
“The staff there are very nice,” Eick said. “The medical treatment is also very nice. I would recommend.”
