Feb 19, 2024 | Uncategorized

(Howard, SD) – Horizon Health Care is pleased to welcome Beth Wernke, MSW, LCSW-PIP, as a provider on our Behavioral Health team. Behavioral Health providers serve patients at all of Horizon’s 22 locations via our telehealth program and in person at James Valley CHC in Huron.

Wernke has eight years of experience working as a healthcare professional. She worked as a Palliative Care Social Worker at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio for four years, as a behavioral health therapist for two years at WinMed Medical Services, as a social worker for two years at University of Cincinnati Physicians, in care management for two years at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, as an intake coordinator at Blue Ridge Vista Health and Wellness for four years, and as a substance abuse case manager for one year at River City Correctional Center, all in Cincinnati. For five years, she was a middle school and fifth grade teacher at Heritage Academy in Florence, Kentucky.

Wernke’s hometown is Kutztown, Pennsylvania, but she currently resides in Huron, South Dakota, having recently moved there from Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Northern Kentucky University and graduated with a Master of Social Work in 2016. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with an Early Childhood Option, in 1993 from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in Millersville, Pennsylvania.

She participates in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program, was a Folds of Honor Scholarship Recipient and is registered as a Star Behavioral Health Provider for military families. She has certifications in Nurturing Parenting, Family Directed Structural Therapy, and substance abuse therapy.

Wernke will be based at the James Valley Community Health Center but can care for patients’ behavioral health needs throughout South Dakota via Horizon’s telehealth capabilities.

“I chose social work to be able to help people, as others have helped me,” Wernke said.
After years as a medical social worker, I realized I wanted to utilize my personal and professional experiences to partner with patients to find their inner strengths to build upon to reach individual goals.”

In her spare time, Wernke likes to cross-stitch, hike, go horseback riding, and enjoys spending time with her grandkids. She has traveled to as far as Hong Kong.  She lives with her husband, oldest daughter, and six-year-old grandson. She has seven children, two of which are no longer living, and six grandchildren.

Thank you for entrusting your behavioral health and well-being to Horizon Health Care. To book an appointment with Wernke, please call 605-772-4999.
