(HOWARD, SD) – Horizon Health offers specialized behavioral health support for patients in all stages of planning their families.
Pregnancy and the following birth are joyful times of preparing for and meeting your new baby. However, the process of having a baby can have complex health impacts. Massive hormonal shifts, physical discomfort and fear of the delivery and the financial concerns of raising a child — can become overwhelming.
Behavioral Health provider Meghan Eisma, MSW, LCSW-PIP, LISW, PMH-C, is a certified clinician in perinatal mental health. Perinatal mental health is crucial during pregnancy and the first year after birth to help protect the health and well-being of babies and their parents.
Depression, anxiety and psychosis can impact bonding, breastfeeding, self-care, and increase the risk of a premature birth, low birth weight in the baby and development of long-term childhood behavioral health issues.
“During these challenging times, it is comforting to be able to provide support to help,” said Traci McDonald, EdD, MS, CNP, PMHNP-BC, Horizon Health Director of Behavioral Health. “Meghan brings the expertise that can do that.”
Meghan has more than five years of experience in supporting individuals through the emotional and psychological challenges of pregnancy and the postpartum period. This involves extensive training in assessment and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders including:
- Postpartum depression
