De Smet Dental Services Welcomes Outreach Students

De Smet Dental Students(DE SMET, SD) – Horizon Health Care, Inc. (Horizon) and De Smet Dental Services, in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, are pleased to introduce two dental students who are doing their clinical rotations in De Smet from September 11 – October 9.

The two students visiting De Smet are Jake Stricherz of South Shore, SD, and John Weber of Milbank, SD. Jake attended University of Minnesota for his undergraduate degree, and then joined the Air Force, prior to moving back to Minneapolis for dental school. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, and watching his younger brother play football. After dental school, he plans to work in Western MN for a small practice.

John completed his undergraduate degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, traveling, and anything that involves the outdoors. When he was younger, John participated in many wrestling and basketball tournaments in the De Smet community. After graduation, John plans to come back to South Dakota to join a dental practice. “I am very excited to return to my home state to serve and gain experience in De Smet,” said John.

“It is a pleasure to once again welcome the dental students from UMN to De Smet,” said Dr. Michelle Scholtz, Chief Dental Officer of Horizon. “Our partnership has been very beneficial to Horizon, as we have been fortunate to hire six dentists (including Dr. Brady Weispfennig and Dr. Lamar Koistinen of De Smet Dental Services) to work at our dental clinics after their rotations.  These dental rotations are a great opportunity to bring dental students back to our rural communities.”

Jerauld County Dental Clinic Welcomes Outreach Students

(WESSINGTON SPRINGS, SD) – Horizon Health Care, Inc. (Horizon) and Jerauld County Dental Clinic, in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, are pleased to introduce two dental students who are doing their clinical rotations in Wessington Springs from September 11 – October 9.

The two students visiting Wessington Springs this year are Keshia Milbauer of Saint Cloud, MN, and Lauren McGovern of Fergus Falls, MN. Keshia enjoys being in the outdoors, camping, canoeing, and art, especially painting and stained glass. Following dental school, Keshia’s plans are yet to be determined, but she knows that she would like to be a general practitioner and work with patients in a rural area. “I enjoy the beauty and serenity of a small town,” said Keshia.

Lauren enjoys being on the lake, boating, sailing, swimming, and cycling. Traveling is her favorite thing to do, and she also considers herself a big “foodie”, enjoying cooking and trying different cuisines. Following dental school, Lauren would like to be a general dentist within a small community. She is passionate about becoming a family dental practitioner and being able to provide care for all ages.

Prairie Winds Dental Clinic Welcomes Outreach Students

(HOWARD, SD) – Horizon Health Care, Inc. (Horizon) and Prairie Winds Dental Clinic, in collaboration with the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, are pleased to introduce two dental students who are doing their clinical rotations in Howard from July 31 – August 18, 2017.

The two students visiting Howard are Michael Lindsay of Madison, SD, and Erica Dickmeyer of Fremont, NE. Lindsay’s plans after dental school include a pediatric residency. His hobbies include snowboarding, traveling, food and photography. Dickmeyer, who plans to move to Colorado or Kansas City after dental school, enjoys running, biking, playing tennis and reading.

“This program has been a great opportunity to bring dental professionals back to South Dakota to work in our rural communities,” said Dr. Michelle Scholtz, Chief Dental Officer of Horizon. “The rotation is preferred for students that are residents of South Dakota or neighboring states and we have been fortunate to have six dentists that have come to work for Horizon after their rotations. We always enjoy the time getting to know these students and introducing them to our communities.”
