Mellette County Clinic
The clinic is located in Mellette County, designated a frontier county
with a population density of 1.6 persons per square mile. Thirty-three
percent of the population is below the poverty level. Just under half of
all persons in the service area are underinsured, and those who do not
have insurance are most likely to have Medicare or Medicaid. The area
suffers from high unemployment and disproportionate rates of diabetes
and hypertension. The clinic providers receive supervision from three
physicians from the Family Practice Associates in Winner, South Dakota.
